Bentonite is considered as one of the best natural colon cleaners. The light gray substance is also called as Wyoming Bentonite, Sodium Bentonite or simply as Montmorillonite.
Bentonite clay is found around Fort Benton, Wyoming, from where it got its name. Actually Bentonite is found in plentiful supply in the Northwest of the US around Montana and Wyoming.
Bentonite has been utilized by Indians and natives for centuries for treating a variety of diseases by detoxifying the body.
Bentonite is actually natural clay obtained from the ground. It is 61 percent silica but also contains 18 percent aluminum and small amounts of sodium, magnesium and iron. It is alkaline, with a pH of 8.3-9.1.
Bentonite works internally by drawing a variety of poisons from the gastrointestinal tract. The Bentonite clay has a negative charge whereas the toxins are likely to have a positive charge. Thus, there is the attraction of the toxins to the clay. Once these are absorbed, the body removes the toxins and clay and you become healthier.
Bentonite clay can absorb any toxic substances that you can think of: impurities, poisons, harmful pesticides, parasites, pathogens and bacteria. Bentonite will not be absorbed by the body so it leaves no harmful side-effects. As a colon cleanser, take from 1-3 tsp of Bentonite powder and put it into around 8 ounces of liquid and mix it thoroughly until the clay is combined completely with the water.
Bentonite can also be utilized externally, to cure various problems of skin and for detox baths. Some people have successfully utilized Bentonite clay to cure their skin rashes. A skin eruption like acne can be treated with a poultice of Bentonite clay.
The suggested procedure for a detox bath is to put in 2-3 ounces of Bentonite clay to the water, mix it thoroughly, soak and enjoy. A poultice can be made by adding one part clay to three parts of water or until you attain desired consistency. Afterwards mix it thoroughly to an even paste and then apply to the area of skin.
Though it is a natural substance, few warnings are still given.
- Due to the presence of aluminum in it, someone who is aluminum intolerant should make use of a substitute for colon cleansing.
- Bentonite clay can also absorb some nutrients, so it is essential to take it at least 1 hour after or before a meal.
