Pre-Bonded Hair Extension Technique – A DIY Guide

There are various techniques for application of hair extensions on your head and the fusion method or the pre-bonded method is the most safest and easiest of them all. In fusion method, there are two methods: the cold fusion using sonic waves and hold fusion using pre-bonded hair extensions.

Pre-bonded hair extensions

These pre-bonded hair extensions are attached strand by strand on the head along with other natural hairs, about 1cm away from the scalp. The extension used here are either synthetic or human hairs. The tip of the extensions consists of a bond, which upon application of a bonding iron (heating rod), melts and gets bonded with the natural hair.
For removal, a loosening or removing solution is used to dissolve the bonds and remove the extensions. The extensions are reusable, provided they are taken care of well. Hair extended this way will last for 3 months with proper care.

How to apply pre-bonded extension by yourself?

• Wash your hair, but do not use any conditioner if this is the first time you are going to use this pre-bonded hair extension.
• Section the hair at mid back of your scalp with a rat tail comb and pile the rest of the hair into a twisted bun on the crown so that the section is a clean straight line.
• Section the twisted bun into two halves and secure both buns with a duckbill clip.
• Take one strand of the hair extension, keep it 1 cm below from the scalp on to a thin strand of existing hair.
• Roll the junction of the extension and the real hair on to a heating rod for 3-5 sec for the bond to melt.
• Remove the rod and uncoil the hair gently. Hold the junction and twist it slightly between the index finger and the thumb for further securing of the strand. Now one strand of the extension has been attached.
• In this way attach all the strands all the way through the back and sides of the head.
• For more volume, repeat this step with another such section of hair from the above two buns.
• Conceal the extensions with the free hair in the buns.

You might need someone’s help for the precision fitting. But you can manage if you have two mirrors.
