Food to Gain Weight
Weight gain foods are necessary to help you to gain extra pounds of healthy weight. Skinny people should be acquainted with what type of food and how much to eat.
Eating the wrong foods such as chips, fries and other junk food which contains high carbohydrates will surely create future health problems like heart diseases, hypertension and diabetes. You should include some proper weight gain foods in your daily diet and the portions you consume should be helpful to gain weight quickly and healthily.
There is a correct way to eat for weight gain. Instead of eating everything in three basic meals, distribute your food intake into 5-6 meals i.e. 3 main and 2 light ones. This would help your calorie intake and preserve a healthy balance.
For gaining weight, it simply means that you are required to eat more as compared to what your body needs for the day.
This is interpreted to eating more than your everyday calorie requirement to sustain the calorie burning activities that you perform. Eating simply for meeting your daily needs would only keep your weight stable, and will not lead to gain weight. Studies have shown that if a person wants to gain 1 extra pound, that person needs to increase his/her calorie intake more than what he/she requires by 3500 calories.
Assuming that the extra weight gain is achieved in a week, this equates adding 500 calories per day to the meals consumed. A normal male adult needs around 2000 odd calories every day.
Following weight gain foods can provide you those extra calories needed for gaining weight. Eat at least these food groups’ items for gaining weight:
- Milk Group: Cheese, milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream.
- Meat Group: Meat, poultry, eggs, fish, peas, dried beans and nuts.
- Vegetable Group: Fresh, frozen, juiced and canned vegetables.
- Fruit Group: Fresh, frozen, juiced and canned fruits.
- Grain Group: Breads, cereals, pasta, rolls, muffins, grits, rice and pancakes.
As you are targeting to gain weight, it is advantageous to eat numerous meals of small quantities everyday instead of few large meals. Eating numerous small meals when combined with your training schedule persuades your body to utilize the calories you have consumed to build muscle.
You should focus on eating nutritious foods from a variety of food sources and groups. Some people might indulge themselves in eating fatty fast foods to gain weight, but this is undoubtedly the wrong path to take if you want to remain healthy.
Thus, if you are having a well balanced diet along with more calories than you burn, you will be able to gain more weight.
