Rapid Weight Gain
The causes that can be mainly attributed to weight gain are lack of fitness exercises and unhealthy eating. Well, it cannot be denied that these are certainly the main factors which make you overweight, but another reality is that there are some other reasons also which leads to rapid weight gain.
And it is this inexplicable rapid weight gain that lays down the way for the entry of frustration and thereby disturbing your peace of mind.
These are the possible reasons for inexplicable weight gain but these results in slower gains over a longer duration of time:
- Some medications like cyproheptadine, corticosteroids, lithium, phenothiazines, tranquilizers, steroids, some oral contraceptives, antidepressants, anti-inflammatory drugs and diabetic medications are the most common ones that can cause weight gain.
- Emotional eating i.e. eating to cope with depression, stress etc.
- High-carbohydrate and high-calorie diet.
- Hypothyroidism which in reality only causes some pounds to be gained gradually over a period of time.
- Smoking cessation.
- Use of alcohol.
- Due to enlargement of organ such as benign cysts or ovarian tumors and obstruction of lymph fluid.
Additional causes for rapid weight gain are as follows:
Hypothyroidism:
Basically it is a deficiency of thyroid hormone that influences the metabolism of food, thus leading to weight gain. It is characterized by symptoms such as coarse skin, fatigue, intolerance to headache and cold and swelling of the face.
Deficiency of Essential Fatty acid:
The body requires essential fatty acids to create hormones, as they help to preserve the metabolism system of body. It is the deficiency of these essential fatty acids in the body that leads to cravings for food and that also particularly for fatty foodstuff. Some of its symptoms comprises of dandruff, arthritis problem, dry hair, diabetes etc.
Food sensitivity:
There are some people who are very sensitive towards particular foods and if by owing to ignorance or by chance, they happen to eat such food items, then it is possible that it may lead to fluid retention, thus leading to weight gain. Some of the early symbols of food sensitivity are fatigue, headache, depression, sinus problem, pain in joints etc.
Menopause:
Most of the women slowly gain about 10-15 lbs while going through menopause due to fluctuation in hormones which affects their appetite, metabolism and fat storage. So even if they are eating right and doing exercise losing weight can really become difficult and almost impossible.
Thus, there are many causes which are responsible for rapid weight gain.
