Weight Loss Programs
Types of weight-loss programs which are available:
The two different types of weight-loss programs which are available are clinical and non-clinical. One has to decide which one to opt for.
Non-clinical program
Non-clinical programs include privately owned weight-loss chain or can be followed by a counselor, book, website, or weight-loss product and may require you to use the program's foods or supplements.
One can also join others interested in losing weight by joining a support group, worksite program, or community-based program.
A safe and effective Non-clinical program will offer books, pamphlets, and websites that are written or reviewed by a licensed health professional such as a medical doctor or registered dietitian, balanced information about following a healthy eating plan and getting regular physical activity, leaders or counselors who show you their training credentials.
A note of caution: Try to stay away from prepackaged meals as much as possible. Avoid any diet that suggests you eat a certain formula, food, or combination of foods. Avoid programs that exclude a physical activity plan. Consult your doctor prior to using any weight loss product, such as a supplement, herb, or over-the-counter medication.
Clinical program
Clinical programs are services conducted in a health care setting, such as a hospital where one or more licensed health professionals, such as medical doctors, nurses, registered dietitians, and/or psychologists, offer their services such as nutrition education, physical activity, and behavior change therapy and at times prescribe weight-loss drugs or gastrointestinal surgery.
Prescription weight-loss drugs
Weight-loss drugs should be used only on prescription of a licensed health care provider and as part of an overall program that includes long-term changes in eating and physical activity habits.
Gastrointestinal surgery
If you have weight-related health problems such as diabetes or heart disease, you may consider gastrointestinal surgery which is also called bariatric surgery. Surgery is risky because it can lead to problems that require more operations later on. It is observed that most of the patients control their weigh with a healthy eating plan and regular physical activity.
A safe and effective Clinical program will offer a team of licensed health professionals, and a plan to help you keep weight off after you have lost it.
A note of caution: Always take into consideration serious possible side effects or health risks involved in the clinical program
Exercise program
Some people start the day with an exercise program but they reduce the amount of activity they do for the rest of the day, thereby doing one of the biggest mistakes one can. If you really want to lose weight make sure that you remain active for the rest of the day.
